Week 6: A Servant King

Sermon Recap

Jesus often surprised people because He didn’t look or act like the king they expected. God’s people imagined a powerful ruler who would overthrow their enemies, but instead Jesus came as the Servant King—humble, gentle, and full of compassion. He turned their expectations upside down. Through His teaching, especially in the Sermon on the Mount, He showed that God’s Kingdom values humility, mercy, purity, and love, not power or status. Everything people thought a king should be was redefined in Jesus.

One of the clearest examples of Jesus as the Servant King happened at the Last Supper when He washed His disciples’ feet. This was the lowest job a servant could do, yet Jesus—the King of Kings—got on His knees and washed the feet of every disciple, including Judas who would betray Him and Peter who would deny Him. Jesus showed that He serves us before we ever serve Him, and His service is rooted in unconditional love, not in our worthiness. This moment revealed the heart of our King: He came not to be served, but to serve.

From this act, Jesus redefined what true leadership looks like in the Kingdom of Heaven. The Servant King teaches us that real greatness isn’t about authority, recognition, or titles—it’s about humility and putting others first. Serving others isn’t optional for Christians; it is the natural response to being loved and served by Jesus Himself. No one is too important, too young, too old, or too experienced to serve. If our King led by serving others, then His followers are called to do the same, so the world can experience His love through us.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, our Servant King,
Thank You for showing us what true love and true leadership look like. Thank You for serving us first, even when we didn’t deserve it. Help us receive Your grace every day so that our hearts can be changed by Your example.

Teach us to follow Your ways—ways of humility, compassion, and service. Open our eyes to see the needs around us, and give us the courage to put others first just as You did. Let our lives reflect Your Kingdom, not the values of this world.

Use us, Lord, to show Your love to others. Make us willing servants, eager to serve wherever You lead. May everything we do point people back to You. In Your name we pray.
Amen.

Life Application

  • Let Jesus Serve You First
Spend time in prayer this week asking Jesus to cleanse, guide, and strengthen you—receiving His love before trying to serve others.

  • Look for a Small Way to Serve Someone
Do one simple act of service for someone—help with a task, encourage someone, or meet a need—without expecting anything in return.

  • Practice Humility Daily
Choose one moment each day to put someone else first—whether at home, work, or church—as a way of following the example of the Servant King.

Don’t Forget!

  • Pray and ask the Lord who you should invite to Christmas services on Sunday December 21st 8:30am 10:30am 12:30pm
