Week 7: A Victorious King

Sermon Recap

This sermon teaches that Jesus is our Victorious King, and Advent is the perfect time to remember why He came. From the very beginning, God created people to live in close relationship with Him, but Adam and Eve chose to disobey, and sin entered the world. Sin broke everything—our relationship with God, the peace of life, and even our nature. It brought both spiritual and physical death. But even in that moment of failure, God promised that someone would come to defeat sin and restore what was lost.

That promise was fulfilled in Jesus. Born of a woman but conceived by the Holy Spirit, He came as the one who would crush the enemy and bring victory to humanity. Jesus took our sins to the cross, paid the debt we could never pay, and rose again in victory. Because of that, anyone who receives Him has salvation—eternal life with God and direct access to His presence. But Jesus didn’t come just to forgive our sins; He also came to change us from the inside out. His victory gives us the power not only to be saved but also to be transformed—what the Bible calls sanctification.

Even though we follow a Victorious King, many Christians still live defeated lives because they accept salvation but never fully surrender to Jesus. Real victory comes when we give God our whole lives and allow the Holy Spirit to shape our thoughts, desires, and choices. As we enter Advent, we are invited to remember that Jesus came so we could live in complete victory—not half of it. This season calls us to celebrate what He has done and to surrender fully so we can experience the abundant, victorious life our King died to give us.

Discussion Questions

  1. What does it mean to you that Jesus came to bring us victory over sin?

  2. Why is it important to remember both Jesus’ birth (Advent) and the reason He came?

  3. What is the difference between being saved and being fully surrendered to Jesus?

  4. Where in your life do you need to stop living in defeat and start claiming the victory Jesus already won for you?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, our Victorious King,
Thank You for coming to earth to rescue us and give us victory over sin and death. Help us remember that Your victory is already ours, not because of anything we’ve done, but because of what You did on the cross and through Your resurrection. Show us the places where we are still living in defeat, and give us the courage to surrender those areas to You. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit so we can walk in the new life and freedom You purchased for us. Teach us to live each day with confidence, hope, and gratitude, trusting that You are with us and fighting for us. In Your name we pray.
Amen.
