Sermon Recap
This week in the Kingdom Culture series, Pastor Rob taught on “A People of Fruit and Gifts,” emphasizing that both the fruit of the Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit come from the Holy Spirit and are not the result of human effort. Drawing from Galatians 5:22–23 and 1 Corinthians 12, he explained that fruit represents the Spirit growing and working in us, shaping our character and revealing who we are becoming in Christ. Spiritual gifts, on the other hand, represent the Spirit working through us to serve others and demonstrate God’s power for the common good. While gifts often draw attention, the fruit of the Spirit is foundational because it establishes credibility and reveals the true work of the Spirit in a believer’s life.
Pastor Rob also addressed misunderstandings about spiritual gifts, especially within the context of the Corinthian church, which struggled with division and spiritual pride. Paul reminded them that the manifestations of the Spirit are given to each believer and are distributed by the Holy Spirit “just as He wills.” There are no spiritual superstars in the Church—every believer has a role and a gift to contribute. Gifts such as wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discernment, tongues, and interpretation are expressions of the Spirit’s activity through ordinary believers. These gifts are not meant to elevate individuals but to strengthen the body of Christ and bring clarity, encouragement, healing, and direction for the Church.
Ultimately, Pastor Rob emphasized that fruit creates the foundation so that the gifts can operate in a healthy and effective way. The evidence of a Spirit-filled life is not primarily the presence of spiritual gifts but the presence of spiritual fruit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. When the character of Christ is being formed in us, the Holy Spirit can trust us to operate in His gifts for the good of others. A healthy Kingdom culture is one where believers cultivate the fruit of the Spirit while remaining open and available for the Spirit to work through them. In this way, fruit and gifts together become the normal expression of a Spirit-led Christian life.
