Sermon Recap
This week we were reminded that we are all called to be people of Good News. The Gospel, literally meaning “good news”, is the announcement that Jesus Christ came into the world to rescue you, forgive your sin, redeem your life, and restore your relationship with God. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus paid the price for your sin so that if you receive Him, you can be made new, filled with the Holy Spirit, and given eternal life. This Good News is not just something you believe intellectually; it is something you personally experience as Christ transforms your heart and renews your mind.
Because you have been raised with Christ, your life is no longer defined by your old nature. Scripture calls you to set your heart and mind on things above and to put to death the sinful patterns that once controlled your life. In Christ, the old self has died and a new life has begun. This means you are called to live differently, turning away from sin and clothing yourself with compassion, humility, patience, forgiveness, and love. As someone made alive in Christ, your life should reflect the reality that Jesus now lives in you.
As a person of Good News, you are also called to live under the influence of the Holy Spirit. This means you refuse to have anything in common with the enemy or the sin that once held you captive. Instead, you choose freedom by walking in righteousness. Your words should reflect this new life as well. Scripture teaches that the tongue has the power of life and death, so you are called to speak words that bring truth, encouragement, and life rather than anger, slander, or negativity. When your heart is filled with the Spirit, your words become instruments that reflect the life and power of Christ.
Finally, being a Good News person means you live with spiritual discernment and take every opportunity to share the Gospel with others. As the Holy Spirit illuminates God’s Word in your life, you learn to distinguish truth from error and walk wisely in a world full of confusion. Just as the Apostle Paul was transformed and spent the rest of his life proclaiming Christ, you are called to carry the message of Jesus wherever you go. The greatest news in the world is that a new King has come, and His name is Jesus and you are now one of His messengers.

Discussion Questions
In Colossians 3:1–17, Paul teaches that because you have been raised with Christ, your old self has died and a new life has begun. What are some practical ways you can “set your mind on things above” in your everyday life, and what are some things from your old life that God may be calling you to put to death?
Proverbs 18:21 says that the tongue has the power of life and death. Think about the words you typically speak over yourself, your family, and others. Are they more life-giving or discouraging? What are some ways you can intentionally begin speaking words that bring life and truth?
The message emphasized that Good News people recognize opportunities to share the Gospel. Thinking about your current relationships and daily routines, where do you see opportunities God may already be giving you to share the Good News of Jesus with someone?
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the Good News of Jesus, that through His sacrifice You have forgiven us, made us new, and filled us with Your Spirit. Help us to live as people who truly belong to You by turning away from sin, speaking words that bring life, and walking with discernment through the power of Your Word. Empower us to boldly share the Gospel so that others may know the hope, freedom, and salvation found in Jesus Christ.
Life Application
Examine and remove anything that gives the enemy a foothold.
Spend time this week prayerfully asking God to reveal anything in your life that still reflects the old nature—habits, attitudes, or compromises. Ask the Holy Spirit for the strength to surrender those areas and walk in the new life Christ has given you (see Romans 6:11–14).
Intentionally share the Good News with someone this week.
Ask God to show you one person in your life who needs encouragement or needs to hear about Jesus. Look for a natural opportunity to speak life, share your testimony, or invite them into a conversation about faith. As a Good News person, you carry a message the world desperately needs.
