Sermon Recap
This week you were invited to see yourself in the pages of Hebrews 10:19–12:2. Just as the original audience faced persecution and pressure, likely in the volatile years leading up to AD 70 and the destruction of Jerusalem under Titus, you also face moments when your faith is tested. The letter was written to believers who were tempted to shrink back, and it speaks directly to you when doubt, fear, or hardship press in. The message is clear: you are called to overcome, not by your own strength, but by anchoring yourself in Christ.
First, you overcome by drawing near to God with confidence. Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, you have full access to the presence of God. When life overwhelms you, your instinct must not be to withdraw but to run toward Him. Second, you overcome by strengthening others and allowing them to strengthen you. You were never meant to endure alone. When you gather, encourage, and spur one another on, your faith is reinforced and your endurance grows stronger.
Third, you overcome by remembering God’s past faithfulness. When you recall how He sustained you before, your confidence is renewed for today’s battles. Fourth, you overcome by persevering—by refusing to shrink back when circumstances become difficult. You hold fast to hope, trusting that God is faithful even when your emotions fluctuate. Fifth, you live by faith, not by sight. Like the men and women of Hebrews 11, you are called to steady trust and obedience, whether you see immediate results or not.
Finally, you overcome by fixing your eyes on Jesus and rejecting anything that hinders your race. The Christian life is not a sprint but a long-distance run. You must intentionally lay aside sin and even good things that weigh you down. When your eyes drift to pain or opposition, discouragement grows—but when your gaze is locked on Christ, your strength is renewed. You are an overcomer as you draw near, stand with others, remember His faithfulness, persevere in hope, walk by faith, and keep your eyes fixed on Jesus.

Discussion Questions
Which of the six actions of an overcomer resonates most with you right now, and why?
How does remembering God’s past faithfulness strengthen your ability to persevere in present challenges?
In what ways can isolation weaken your faith, and how can intentional Christian community strengthen it?
What specific “weights” (not just sins) might be hindering your spiritual endurance, and what practical steps can you take to lay them aside?
Prayer
Father, because of the access I have through Jesus, I choose to draw near to You with confidence and not shrink back in fear. Strengthen my faith to persevere when pressure rises, and remind me of Your faithfulness in every season You’ve carried me through. Surround me with believers who will encourage me, and help me to spur others on toward love and good works. Empower me and remind me daily to fix my eyes on Jesus, stripping away anything that hinders me, and empower me by Your Spirit to run my race as an overcomer.
Life Application
Evaluate and remove spiritual hindrances – examine your life daily for anything that entangles or distracts you from following Christ—whether sin, unhealthy habits, misplaced priorities, or distractions and take intentional steps to lay them aside so you can run your race with endurance and focus.
Intentionally spend daily time in God’s presence – Set aside moments each day to pray, read Scripture, and bring your fears, doubts, and struggles before God so you can draw near with confidence and build spiritual strength.
