Sermon Recap
Pastor Matt continues our series comparing the life and qualities of King Saul to King David. In week two, we focus on two scenarios where both men are faced with enemy opposition. One decides to panic, and one trusts in God’s promises. When Saul panics, it leads him to compromise, acting in a way that he knows is wrong. David, on the other hand, walks confidently into battle, convinced that the Lord is on his side. The results couldn’t be more drastic. Saul is rejected as King, and the throne is taken from him. David is heralded as one after God’s own heart, and establishes a royal lineage that will result in the birth of Jesus, the eternal King. The question is, why would any of us compromise on our convictions, the things we know to be true? The answer is fear. Fear leads us to a scarcity mindset, resulting in a persistent focus on what we might lose. Saul was afraid his army would be defeated and he would lose his throne. As a result, he stopped trusting God and took matters into his own hands. You may not be leading a literal army, but every day you make choices whether to trust the Lord or compromise.

Discussion Questions
Discuss together, pushing yourself toward transparency. The more we are authentic and humble with one another, the more we can grow in Christ.
What would you do if you were in Saul’s position? Do you find yourself being sympathetic to Saul’s circumstance, or can you see the pattern of disregard for the Lord’s commands?
What are some unique convictions you have? Maybe they are personal axioms you live by, rules of life that guide you, or just expectations you have for you and your family?
Pastor Matt talked about many common areas we compromise in: busyness/lack of rest, pursuing material possessions, lack of generosity, overworking, control, immoral lifestyle, inappropriate relationships, etc. Did the Holy Spirit Convict you in any areas, and what did you decide to do about it?
If you have compromised in an area of your life, can you identify the scarcity belief, and how that communicates a lack of trust in God? For example:
“I can’t give too much or I won’t have enough left.”
SCARCITY BELIEF - Resources are limited - generosity puts me at risk.
LACK of TRUST - God can’t replenish what I give away.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, forgive me for doubting your word. In my humanity, I have wanted to control the outcome, and I was afraid that I wouldn’t succeed if I did things your way. God give me a greater faith to trust you. I do not want to be like a wave, blown and tossed by the wind. I want to be single-minded, grounded in your truth. May I be brave like David, full of conviction and never wavering. I trust you with all of my heart. Amen
Life Application
Trusting God in uncertainty brings strength and stability—fear will always mislead, but faith will align you with Jesus!
