Sermon Recap
This week you were invited into a deeper comparison between two kings—Saul and David—and how their choices shaped not only their leadership but their intimacy with God. David’s life is marked by a powerful, consistent habit: he inquired of the Lord. In big decisions and small ones, David paused to pray, to seek God’s guidance, and to align his heart with God’s will. That rhythm of inquiring, of daily communion with the Lord, became the foundation for his legacy. Like the careful laying of each stone in a strong wall, David built a life of godly character one obedient decision at a time.
By contrast, Saul’s story is a warning. He rarely sought the Lord’s guidance—only doing so when pressured by others or when desperation left him with no other option. Even then, it was often too late or insincere. When God didn’t answer, Saul turned to forbidden alternatives like consulting a medium, showing that his trust was never really in God to begin with. Saul’s impulsive, self-centered leadership eventually led to his downfall, while David’s hunger for God's presence shaped a kingdom aligned with heaven. The difference wasn’t their titles—it was the daily rhythm of their hearts.
As a follower of Christ, you are challenged to become a person who inquires of the Lord—not just when life is falling apart, but as a natural daily rhythm. Prayer isn’t just a 911 call in crisis; it’s about presence. It’s about choosing intimacy with God over all the noise and distractions of the world. Just as David desired the Ark of the Covenant near him because it represented God’s presence, you’re invited to center your life around that same presence through daily prayer, praise, and listening.
And it begins with hunger. Do you long for more of God? Are you feeding your soul on things that stir up deeper desire for Him? If not, today is the time to start. Like David in Psalm 63, you’re called to seek God earnestly, to thirst for Him, and to recognize that His love is better than life itself. When you feed on His Word and presence, your hunger for Him will grow—and with it, the kind of daily, faithful obedience that builds a lasting legacy.

Discussion Questions
Discuss together, pushing yourself toward transparency. The more we are authentic and humble with one another, the more we can grow in Christ.
In what ways do you regularly “inquire of the Lord” when making decisions, and what might be keeping you from doing so more consistently?
How does the contrast between Saul and David challenge your view of what it means to seek God’s presence in daily life?
What are some practical ways you can develop a deeper hunger for God’s presence, especially in a world full of distractions?
Prayer
Lord God, I come before You recognizing how often I rush ahead without seeking Your guidance. Please forgive me for the times I have acted impulsively or relied on my own understanding instead of pausing to inquire of You. Stir in my heart a deep hunger and thirst for Your presence, just as David longed to dwell in Your house and seek Your face daily. Help me to build my life on a firm foundation of obedience and intimacy with You, laying each decision like a careful stone in a strong wall. May my desire be to walk closely with You, hearing Your voice and following Your lead in every season. Strengthen me to make seeking You a daily rhythm, so that my life honors You and reflects Your heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Life Application
Begin establishing a daily prayer routine focused on seeking God’s presence first—start each time with praise and thanksgiving before bringing your requests or decisions to Him.
When facing any decision, big or small, intentionally pause and ask God for guidance before acting, cultivating a habit of inquiring of the Lord consistently like David did.
