Sermon Recap
In this message from The Tale of Two Kings, we are reminded that God’s perspective is completely different from ours. When Samuel went to anoint Israel’s next king in 1 Samuel 16, he assumed God would choose someone tall, strong, and impressive—just like Saul. But God quickly corrected him: “People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” In a world where so much attention is given to how things look, you’re challenged to ask: What does God see in me? He’s not looking at your image—He’s looking at your authenticity, your surrender, and your willingness to trust Him even when no one else is watching.
You might feel overlooked at times, just like David did. Even his own father didn’t think he was worth bringing in from the field. But while others discounted him, God had been watching. David had been faithful in the secret place—worshiping, writing, tending sheep. And that’s the point: what’s built in secret, God reveals in season. You don’t need a platform to be faithful. You don’t need a title to walk in obedience. God chooses the heart that says, “I’m yours,” even when life feels ordinary or unnoticed.
This message also draws a clear contrast between David and Saul. Saul skipped the season of solitude and character-building. As a result, his leadership lacked the depth that only time with God can develop. David’s journey started with small steps of obedience—first serving Saul with music, then carrying armor, all before stepping onto the battlefield. You learn that God prepares leaders in hidden places. He doesn’t rush the process, and neither should you. The palace came after the pasture—not the other way around.
So wherever you find yourself—in a job that feels like a dead end, in a season of waiting, or feeling unseen—you can take heart. God sees you. He’s not wasting this time; He’s using it to develop your character, deepen your trust, and prepare you for what’s next. Your faithfulness in the quiet places is never missed by Him. Holiness, humility, and surrender are what qualify you for His calling. You don’t need to impress Him—just be available. Because when you show up with a surrendered heart, God says, “You’re the one.”

Prayer
Lord Jesus, help me to be faithful in the hidden places where no one else sees, knowing You are shaping my heart for Your purposes. Strip away my need for approval and teach me to value authenticity. I surrender all I am to You—use me, refine me, and prepare me for what You’ve called me to. Amen!
Life Application
Commit to faithfulness in your current season—even if it feels hidden or insignificant.
Like David tending sheep, choose to honor God in the small, unseen moments. Start each day by asking, “God, how can I serve You right where I am?” Whether it’s at work, at home, or in a waiting season, let obedience shape your heart.
Pursue authenticity over appearance in your relationship with God and others.
Set aside time this week to reflect and pray honestly, without filters. Ask God to search your heart (Psalm 139:23–24), and be willing to surrender any pride, fear, or performance mindset. Let your walk with God be marked by humility and realness, not perfection.
