Sermon Recap
This week, Pastor David spoke on the familiar story of David and Goliath. When confronted with an intimidating foe, King Saul and the Israelite army cowered in fear for over forty days. While on an errand from his father to check in on his brothers, David hears of Goliath’s insults against the Lord and offers to fight him on his own. King Saul refuses David at first, not believing that David had what it took to fight the giant. David reveals his past victories over both bear and Lion, claiming that the Lord would once again rescue him in battle. Sure enough, David manages to defeat Goliath with a single strike from his sling.
Within this story, we witness David’s admirable act of courage in the face of an overwhelming threat. More than that, though, we witness David’s confidence in the Lord. Whether against beast or giant, David believed that the Lord was greater than the obstacles in front him. King Saul’s cowardice in the face of intimidation effected not himself, but everyone under his command as well. This comparison reminds us that in our struggles, we can have confidence in the Lord. Even in instances where we lack courage, we can take heart knowing that the Lord will true to his promises. When we’re tempted to feel panicked or overwhelmed, we can take the next step in faith, having confidence that the Lord is good.

Discuss together, pushing yourself toward transparency. The more we are authentic and humble with one another, the more we can grow in Christ.
When life gets challenging, is it easy for you to stay courageous? Why or why not?
What obstacles in your life, if any, are preventing you from having confidence in the Lord? (Elaborate and discuss).
In the story of Goliath, do you relate more to David or to Saul? Why?
What can you do in your life to increase your confidence in the Lord?
Prayer
Lord, even in the midst of life’s challenges, I trust that you are good. I pray that I grow in my knowledge of who you are, and in my confidence of what you’re capable of. I ask, Jesus, that in my weakness you would be made strong. In the times where my heart is filled with fear, I ask that you would remind me of your promises to be my shield and my fortress. As you grow my confidence in you, Lord, would I be more willing to step out in faith and do all that you’ve called me to do. I pray all of this in your name, Jesus. Amen!
